BU16A Fever ARE STATE CUP CHAMPIONS!
On Sunday May 19th on the stadium field of the Maryland SoccerPlex, our BU16A Fever defeated the MSC Magic Green 2-0 to win the Maryland State Cup. The Fever staff is comprised of head coach Paul Kowalewski and his assistant coaches Matt Arridlt and Wayne Gruss, keeper coach Johan De Vicq, Dave Vincent as Fitness Trainer, and Manager Terri Kowalewski and Scott Hennen as Tournament Coordinator. The staff were very familiar with their outstanding Region 1 Premier League opponent, and devised a strategy and tactics that the players executed perfectly. Part-way through the first half, the Fever changed from their traditional 4-4-2 to a more offensively aggressive 4-3-3, and it paid dividends almost immediately. Goals were by Josh Ridgley and Ryan Gruss, and assists were by Daniel Kwon and Chase Greber. The Fever controlled most of the possession, and the midfield, with outstanding play from Griffin Kowalewski, Chase Greber, Kieran Collien, and Connor Arrildt. Strikers Daniel Kwon, Ryan Gruss, Josh Ridgley, Nic Crockett, Noah Beall, and Tony Renaldo challenged the MSC defense and produced both goals. After building their 2-0 advantage and seeing how MSC was pressing to get back in the match, the coaches again changed the formation to a 4-5-1 so as to have better numbers in the midfield. As a result, the Fever were able to handle the pressure a very talented Magic Green put on them and secure the title. Craig Wishart was in command in goal, and was supported by strong back line play from Evan Monseu, Joe Shuey, Justin Hennen, Chad Greber, and holding midfielder Garrett McLendon. Paul Shorkey is the Fever's other Goal keeper. Shutout by Craig Wishart. Congratulations to the players and coaches for such a significant accomplishment. The Fever will represent the State of Maryland in the Region I Championships, in Kingston, Rhode Island, from June 27 to July 2 this summer. GU15A Tsunami Win Maryland President's Cup. Facts About The ClubGSPAA Soccer is the largest youth soccer organization in Anne Arundel County, and fourth largest in Maryland, according to MSYSA registration numbers. Club size is measured by number of players and teams registered with the state governing body for soccer, the MSYSA, and determines the number of voting shares the club has. Here is the list of Anne Arundel County clubs and the number of votes being used for the 2013 Annual General Meeting on June 16th:
For fall 2013, we have nearly 2200 children in our various programs - Clinic (see the Youth Development Program link), Club (see the Recreation Program link) and Select (see the Select Program link). We also offer an outstanding youth referee program (see the Referee Program link). Soccer is also the largest sports program in GSPAA. We typically field 40 to 50 Select teams, over 20 of which play in WAGS and NCSL, which U.S. Youth Soccer routinely considers among the elite girls and boys leagues in the nation. No club in Anne Arundel County fields more Select (travel) teams. For a full list of our Select Teams and what they are doing, see the Girls and Boys Teams links at Select Program. To see a complete list of Select Program accomplishments, players and teams, read our Quarterly Select Soccer Newsletters or click Club Achievements. During the past seasonal year, our Select teams participated in 46 tournaments (not counting State or President Cup), with 17 Championships and 20 Finalists.
