Gali Sanchez Memorial Scholarship To Be Awarded In October
Severna Park Soccer will be awarding its annual Moses Gali Sanchez Memorial Scholarship in October to a member of the Class of 2015. Applications are due by October 22, 2014. Gali was a long time coach and member of the Green Hornets Board of Director, who passed away in 2011. Gali, who epitomized excellence in his professional and family lives, was a life time soccer player and coach. He essentially started the select soccer program when he entered the first Severna Park travel team in the Mid-Maryland soccer league, which would soon become part of the present day National Capital Soccer League. Gali also served as President of the Anne Arundel Youth Soccer League and helped establish the soccer program at Severna Park High School. The Sanchez family established the scholarship in Gali's memory to assist the current player with the Green Hornets who most embodies the qualities that Gali sought to instill in his players.
Who is eligible? Any current Green Hornets soccer player in either the select or club program who is a member of the Class of 2015.
How to apply for the scholarship. By October 22, 2014, applicants should submit a written resume and essay describing their qualifications for the scholarship, which should include the way in which they have exhibited the values listed below, a description of the applicant s current and past participation in GSPAA soccer, and any other information the applicant feels would be helpful. Each applicant must also provide two references, who can be available in person, by email or by phone. How the scholarship will be awarded. The recipient of the scholarship will be determined by October of each year by the Scholarship Fund Committee. The Committees selection must be approved by the Board of Directors of the GSPAA. Committee members will consider the applicants written submissions and references and information obtained from others in the community. Family of Scholarship fund committee members and family of the GSPAA Board of Directors are not eligible to receive the scholarship. The scholarship, which is a one time payment, will be paid when the recipient enrolls in college.
