SEVP U9 United win Adidas Washington Gateway Classic

SEVP Boys U9 United completed their first year of competition with a championship in the inaugural Adidas Washington Gateway Classic tournament in Olney, MD, June 14th and 15th. The team withstood three penalty kicks in the championship game to come away with the title and a perfect 4-0 tournament record.

The up-tempo style the boys exhibited throughout the regular season in the National Capital Soccer League (NCSL) was on display in the tournament as they poured in 25 goals in their four tournament games. Led by Henry Saunders and Gavin Simpkins with 6 goals apiece and Ameyaw Hoffmaster adding 4 goals and 4 assists, the team was determined to come away with the title. United faced two Alliance Soccer Club teams in the Saturday games, outscoring them by a combined 16-5 score. In the opening game on Sunday, United allowed two quick goals to A3 Soccer before eventually cruising to a 5-2 victory. The final matched United against SoccerDome Gold, a Prince George’s County tournament team. After a tight first-half, United took over in the second and when Evan Souder saved a late penalty kick, the 4-3 championship game victory was secured.

“The tournament  really was the culmination of a fantastic year for the boys. The improvements they made from the time they came together as individuals in August to the team they are today is really impressive”. The team is looking forward to competing in the inaugural season of the Eastern Premier Development League (EPDL) in the fall. “The emphasis on player development of this new league really provides Severna Park Soccer with a unique advantage that we really hope to build on over the next few years”.
